History of Newbuildings Victoria L.O.L. 1087
The Right Worshipful Master Alan Lindsay of the City of Londonderry Grand
Orange Lodge Instituted Newbuildings Victoria LOL No. 1087 on 31st January
2003 in The Black Room of The Apprentice Boys of Derry Memorial Hall.
This was a special meeting between No’s 1 & 4 District.
The Officers Installed were:
Worshipful Master – Wor Bro J Keys (Sen)
Deputy Master – Bro K Kincaid
Lay Chaplain – Bro G Wray
Secretary – Bro C Campbell
Treasurer – Bro M Devenney
1st Committee – Bro J Burton
Newbuildings Victoria LOL No.1087 opened their first meeting on Thursday
20th February 2003 in The Orange Lodge Room of The Apprentice Boys Memorial
Hall; Wor Bro John Keys (Sen) occupied the Worshipful Master’s Chair.
June 2003 - Wor Bro Rev Ivan Dinsmore conducted their 1st Church Service
in The Church Of Ireland Centre, Newbuildings during the service they
dedicated new Long Sashes.
The City of Londonderry No.1 District kindly donated the Old Banner of
Victoria LOL No.1087 which handed in there Warrant in September 2002;
Newbuildings Victoria LOL No.1087 proudly carried this banner around Newbuildings
for the 1st time to and from their Church Service lead by The Churchill
Flute Band.
July 2003 - Wor Bro John Keys (Sen) lead the Lodge to their first 12th
Celebrations, which started off with the morning parades in Culmore and
Londonderry before processing to the main celebrations in Limavady. The
Lodge fell in behind No.1 District and The Churchill Flute Band. The day
finished off with the evening parades in Londonderry and Newbuildings.
June 2004 – Bro Kenneth Kincaid was presented with his Lecturer
Certificate for The Orange and Purple Degrees.
June 2004 - Wor Bro Derek Boyd PM was presented with his 25-Year Jewel.
July 2004 – Newbuildings Victoria LOL No. 1087 held their 1st Battle
Of The Somme Commemoration Parade and Service in Newbuildings Village
where they invited The County of Tyrone Strabane District Lodges and The
City of Londonderry Grand Orange Lodge which included No’s 1 –
5 District’s and the Ladies, Junior Boys and Girls along with locals
bands from the area.
Both The Church Service and Battle of The Somme Commendation has become
Annual Events in Newbuildings Victoria LOL No. 1087 calendar of events.
During the year the Lodge supports other Orange Services and Parades throughout
the Jurisdiction, and all Lodge Members would be turned out in their dark
suits, long sashes, lodge ties and white gloves.
July 2005 – A New Banner was dedicated which depicted the scenes
of The Exodus of Londonderry; during the early part of the troubles, Londonderry
saw thousands of Protestants been put out of there homes in the West Bank
of Londonderry. The reverse side has a picture of Queen Victoria. The
New Banner win the Best Banner Completion sponsored by The Grand Orange
Lodge of Ireland in 2005 in the Annual Grand’s Awards.
During 2005 the City Grand Master had a Charity of The Year for The Foyle
Hospice to which LOL No.1087 contributed towards this with Brethren taking
part in sponsored walks, 13,000ft freefall skydive and other various fundraising
events.
LOL No.1087 does a lot of fundraising not only for there own funds but
also for other various charities and Non-Orange Organisations; they have
supported the local churches in Newbuildings, Local Charities and The
Fountain & Newbuildings Primary Schools.
January 2006 – Wor Bro Kenneth Kincaid was elected as Worshipful
Master; Bro Robert Hamilton was elected as Deputy Master.
February 2006 - The Lodge moved their monthly meetings to The Church Of
Ireland Centre, Newbuildings and to mark this occasion they hosted The
City Of Londonderry Grand Orange Lodge in April 2006.
June 2007 – Wor Bro Kenneth Kincaid lead the Lodge to The Carrickfergus
Pageant to Commentate The Landing of King William, which they represented
The City Of Londonderry Grand Orange Lodge.
July 2007 - Bro Jack Allen was presented with his 50-Year Jewel
July 2008 - Wor Bro John Keys (Sen) PM was presented with his 25-Year
Jewel
July 2008 – History was made in Newbuildings when for the first
time in the history of Londonderry all the Loyal Orders marched side by
side; The Orange Order, including The Royal Arch Purple Chapter, The Royal
Black Preceptory and The Apprentice Boys Of Derry all took part in the
Commemoration of The Battle Of The Somme.
July 2008 – The Lodge secured a contract with the newly formed band
of The Pride Of The Orange And Blue Flute Band “Auld Boys”
to lead them on the 12th July Celebrations. It was the first time that
Newbuildings Victoria LOL No. 1087 marched out of Newbuildings Village
on the 12th morning and they did this along with neighbouring Lodge Curryfree
LOL No.1060 who where lead by The Pride Of The Orange And Blue Flute Band
“Young Boys.”
Four Brethren from Bristol joined the ranks of The Lodge to take part
in the 12th Celebrations in Coleraine.
Brethren within Newbuildings Victoria LOL No.1087 holds and has held various
offices within The City of Londonderry Grand Orange Lodge and No.1 District.
Offices include Assistant Deputy City Grand Secretary, District Master,
Deputy District Master, District Lay Chaplain, District Secretary &
District Lecturer. A few of the Brethren are trained as Senior Marshal’s
who assist The Chief Marshal of The City Of Londonderry Grand Orange Lodge
and The Apprentice Boys of Derry to steward Orange Parades, Apprentice
Boys of Derry and Band Parades as well as Non – Loyal Order Events.
These include (Foyle Hospice Fun Runs and Local Football Matches)
The Lodge ends the year off with a Children Christmas Party for members
of the Brethren’s Family and hold a Dinner Dance and are joined
by Older Brethren of The Mitchelburn Parent Club of The Apprentice Boys
of Derry.

Jan 2009 - Wor Bro Robert Hamilton installed as new Worshipful Master.
July 2009 - The Lodge presented Bro Richard Kincaid with a cheque for £800 to go towards his trip to India as part of Habitat For Humanity NI. Bro Richard took part in Mission work to build houses in India.
July 2009 - The Lodge went to Rossnowlagh for the first time to take part in the Co. Donegal 12th.
July 2009 - The Lodge took part in the 12th July Celebrations in Londonderry;
as The City Of Londonderry Grand Orange Lodge celebrated their 175th Anniversary.
The first six years of the formation of Newbuildings
Victoria LOL No. 1087 have raised almost £5,000 for local and national
charities and local community organisations.
The Lodge membership currently stands at 36.
